Osmunda regalis (Royal Fern)
Osmunda regalis, known as the Royal Fern, is nicknamed the "queen of ferns". Belonging to a very ancient genus dating back to the Tertiary Era, it is a protected plant throughout Italy. Its imposing fronds can reach up to 2 meters in length , making the plant decidedly showy.
- In spring, the leaves take on a light green color, while in autumn they turn yellow.
- At the apex of the fronds there are sporangia, grouped in structures similar to panicles, which once ripe take on a rusty colour.
